CVE-2022-24765 2 Git-scm, Microsoft 2 Git, Windows 2022-05-17 6.9 MEDIUM 7.8 HIGH
Git for Windows is a fork of Git containing Windows-specific patches. This vulnerability affects users working on multi-user machines, where untrusted parties have write access to the same hard disk. Those untrusted parties could create the folder `C:\.git`, which would be picked up by Git operations run supposedly outside a repository while searching for a Git directory. Git would then respect any config in said Git directory. Git Bash users who set `GIT_PS1_SHOWDIRTYSTATE` are vulnerable as well. Users who installed posh-gitare vulnerable simply by starting a PowerShell. Users of IDEs such as Visual Studio are vulnerable: simply creating a new project would already read and respect the config specified in `C:\.git\config`. Users of the Microsoft fork of Git are vulnerable simply by starting a Git Bash. The problem has been patched in Git for Windows v2.35.2. Users unable to upgrade may create the folder `.git` on all drives where Git commands are run, and remove read/write access from those folders as a workaround. Alternatively, define or extend `GIT_CEILING_DIRECTORIES` to cover the _parent_ directory of the user profile, e.g. `C:\Users` if the user profile is located in `C:\Users\my-user-name`.
CVE-2019-19604 4 Debian, Fedoraproject, Git-scm and 1 more 4 Debian Linux, Fedora, Git and 1 more 2022-04-01 9.3 HIGH 7.8 HIGH
Arbitrary command execution is possible in Git before 2.20.2, 2.21.x before 2.21.1, 2.22.x before 2.22.2, 2.23.x before 2.23.1, and 2.24.x before 2.24.1 because a "git submodule update" operation can run commands found in the .gitmodules file of a malicious repository.
CVE-2022-24975 1 Git-scm 1 Git 2022-02-22 4.3 MEDIUM 7.5 HIGH
The --mirror documentation for Git through 2.35.1 does not mention the availability of deleted content, aka the "GitBleed" issue. This could present a security risk if information-disclosure auditing processes rely on a clone operation without the --mirror option.
CVE-2021-40330 1 Git-scm 1 Git 2021-09-27 5.0 MEDIUM 7.5 HIGH
git_connect_git in connect.c in Git before 2.30.1 allows a repository path to contain a newline character, which may result in unexpected cross-protocol requests, as demonstrated by the git://localhost:1234/%0d%0a%0d%0aGET%20/%20HTTP/1.1 substring.
CVE-2021-21300 3 Apple, Fedoraproject, Git-scm 4 Macos, Xcode, Fedora and 1 more 2021-09-23 5.1 MEDIUM 7.5 HIGH
Git is an open-source distributed revision control system. In affected versions of Git a specially crafted repository that contains symbolic links as well as files using a clean/smudge filter such as Git LFS, may cause just-checked out script to be executed while cloning onto a case-insensitive file system such as NTFS, HFS+ or APFS (i.e. the default file systems on Windows and macOS). Note that clean/smudge filters have to be configured for that. Git for Windows configures Git LFS by default, and is therefore vulnerable. The problem has been patched in the versions published on Tuesday, March 9th, 2021. As a workaound, if symbolic link support is disabled in Git (e.g. via `git config --global core.symlinks false`), the described attack won't work. Likewise, if no clean/smudge filters such as Git LFS are configured globally (i.e. _before_ cloning), the attack is foiled. As always, it is best to avoid cloning repositories from untrusted sources. The earliest impacted version is 2.14.2. The fix versions are: 2.30.1, 2.29.3, 2.28.1, 2.27.1, 2.26.3, 2.25.5, 2.24.4, 2.23.4, 2.22.5, 2.21.4, 2.20.5, 2.19.6, 2.18.5,
CVE-2016-2324 3 Git-scm, Opensuse, Suse 8 Git, Leap, Opensuse and 5 more 2021-08-04 10.0 HIGH 9.8 CRITICAL
Integer overflow in Git before 2.7.4 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a (1) long filename or (2) many nested trees, which triggers a heap-based buffer overflow.
CVE-2014-9390 6 Apple, Eclipse, Git-scm and 3 more 8 Mac Os X, Xcode, Egit and 5 more 2021-05-17 7.5 HIGH 9.8 CRITICAL
Git before, 1.9.x before 1.9.5, 2.0.x before 2.0.5, 2.1.x before 2.1.4, and 2.2.x before 2.2.1 on Windows and OS X; Mercurial before 3.2.3 on Windows and OS X; Apple Xcode before 6.2 beta 3; mine all versions before 08-12-2014; libgit2 all versions up to 0.21.2; Egit all versions before 08-12-2014; and JGit all versions before 08-12-2014 allow remote Git servers to execute arbitrary commands via a tree containing a crafted .git/config file with (1) an ignorable Unicode codepoint, (2) a git~1/config representation, or (3) mixed case that is improperly handled on a case-insensitive filesystem.
CVE-2020-5260 6 Canonical, Debian, Fedoraproject and 3 more 6 Ubuntu Linux, Debian Linux, Fedora and 3 more 2021-03-19 5.0 MEDIUM 7.5 HIGH
Affected versions of Git have a vulnerability whereby Git can be tricked into sending private credentials to a host controlled by an attacker. Git uses external "credential helper" programs to store and retrieve passwords or other credentials from secure storage provided by the operating system. Specially-crafted URLs that contain an encoded newline can inject unintended values into the credential helper protocol stream, causing the credential helper to retrieve the password for one server (e.g., for an HTTP request being made to another server (e.g.,, resulting in credentials for the former being sent to the latter. There are no restrictions on the relationship between the two, meaning that an attacker can craft a URL that will present stored credentials for any host to a host of their choosing. The vulnerability can be triggered by feeding a malicious URL to git clone. However, the affected URLs look rather suspicious; the likely vector would be through systems which automatically clone URLs not visible to the user, such as Git submodules, or package systems built around Git. The problem has been patched in the versions published on April 14th, 2020, going back to v2.17.x. Anyone wishing to backport the change further can do so by applying commit 9a6bbee (the full release includes extra checks for git fsck, but that commit is sufficient to protect clients against the vulnerability). The patched versions are: 2.17.4, 2.18.3, 2.19.4, 2.20.3, 2.21.2, 2.22.3, 2.23.2, 2.24.2, 2.25.3, 2.26.1.
CVE-2008-5516 3 Git, Git-scm, Rpath 3 Git, Git, Linux 2021-01-26 7.5 HIGH N/A
The web interface in git (gitweb) 1.5.x before 1.5.5 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via shell metacharacters related to git_search.
CVE-2017-14867 2 Debian, Git-scm 2 Debian Linux, Git 2021-01-26 9.0 HIGH 8.8 HIGH
Git before 2.10.5, 2.11.x before 2.11.4, 2.12.x before 2.12.5, 2.13.x before 2.13.6, and 2.14.x before 2.14.2 uses unsafe Perl scripts to support subcommands such as cvsserver, which allows attackers to execute arbitrary OS commands via shell metacharacters in a module name. The vulnerable code is reachable via git-shell even without CVS support.
CVE-2013-0308 1 Git-scm 1 Git 2021-01-26 4.3 MEDIUM N/A
The imap-send command in GIT before does not verify that the server hostname matches a domain name in the subject's Common Name (CN) or subjectAltName field of the X.509 certificate, which allows man-in-the-middle attackers to spoof SSL servers via an arbitrary valid certificate.
CVE-2010-3906 2 Git, Git-scm 2 Git, Git 2021-01-26 4.3 MEDIUM N/A
Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Gitweb and earlier allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the (1) f and (2) fp parameters.
CVE-2010-2542 1 Git-scm 1 Git 2020-10-02 7.5 HIGH N/A
Stack-based buffer overflow in the is_git_directory function in setup.c in Git before allows local users to gain privileges via a long gitdir: field in a .git file in a working copy.
CVE-2018-17456 4 Canonical, Debian, Git-scm and 1 more 11 Ubuntu Linux, Debian Linux, Git and 8 more 2020-08-24 7.5 HIGH 9.8 CRITICAL
Git before 2.14.5, 2.15.x before 2.15.3, 2.16.x before 2.16.5, 2.17.x before 2.17.2, 2.18.x before 2.18.1, and 2.19.x before 2.19.1 allows remote code execution during processing of a recursive "git clone" of a superproject if a .gitmodules file has a URL field beginning with a '-' character.
CVE-2018-11235 5 Canonical, Debian, Git-scm and 2 more 9 Ubuntu Linux, Debian Linux, Git and 6 more 2020-05-02 6.8 MEDIUM 7.8 HIGH
In Git before 2.13.7, 2.14.x before 2.14.4, 2.15.x before 2.15.2, 2.16.x before 2.16.4, and 2.17.x before 2.17.1, remote code execution can occur. With a crafted .gitmodules file, a malicious project can execute an arbitrary script on a machine that runs "git clone --recurse-submodules" because submodule "names" are obtained from this file, and then appended to $GIT_DIR/modules, leading to directory traversal with "../" in a name. Finally, post-checkout hooks from a submodule are executed, bypassing the intended design in which hooks are not obtained from a remote server.
CVE-2018-11233 2 Canonical, Git-scm 2 Ubuntu Linux, Git 2020-05-02 5.0 MEDIUM 7.5 HIGH
In Git before 2.13.7, 2.14.x before 2.14.4, 2.15.x before 2.15.2, 2.16.x before 2.16.4, and 2.17.x before 2.17.1, code to sanity-check pathnames on NTFS can result in reading out-of-bounds memory.
CVE-2017-15298 2 Canonical, Git-scm 2 Ubuntu Linux, Git 2020-05-02 4.3 MEDIUM 5.5 MEDIUM
Git through 2.14.2 mishandles layers of tree objects, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) via a crafted repository, aka a Git bomb. This can also have an impact of disk consumption; however, an affected process typically would not survive its attempt to build the data structure in memory before writing to disk.
CVE-2014-9938 1 Git-scm 1 Git 2020-04-29 6.8 MEDIUM 8.8 HIGH
contrib/completion/ in Git before 1.9.3 does not sanitize branch names in the PS1 variable, allowing a malicious repository to cause code execution.
CVE-2017-1000117 1 Git-scm 1 Git 2019-10-03 6.8 MEDIUM 8.8 HIGH
A malicious third-party can give a crafted "ssh://..." URL to an unsuspecting victim, and an attempt to visit the URL can result in any program that exists on the victim's machine being executed. Such a URL could be placed in the .gitmodules file of a malicious project, and an unsuspecting victim could be tricked into running "git clone --recurse-submodules" to trigger the vulnerability.
CVE-2018-19486 3 Canonical, Git-scm, Linux 3 Ubuntu Linux, Git, Linux Kernel 2019-04-11 7.5 HIGH 9.8 CRITICAL
Git before 2.19.2 on Linux and UNIX executes commands from the current working directory (as if '.' were at the end of $PATH) in certain cases involving the run_command() API and run-command.c, because there was a dangerous change from execvp to execv during 2017.
