CVE-2024-1048 3 Fedoraproject, Gnu, Redhat 3 Fedora, Grub2, Enterprise Linux 2024-03-21 N/A 3.3 LOW
A flaw was found in the grub2-set-bootflag utility of grub2. After the fix of CVE-2019-14865, grub2-set-bootflag will create a temporary file with the new grubenv content and rename it to the original grubenv file. If the program is killed before the rename operation, the temporary file will not be removed and may fill the filesystem when invoked multiple times, resulting in a filesystem out of free inodes or blocks.
CVE-2023-4693 2 Gnu, Redhat 2 Grub2, Enterprise Linux 2024-03-08 N/A 4.6 MEDIUM
An out-of-bounds read flaw was found on grub2's NTFS filesystem driver. This issue may allow a physically present attacker to present a specially crafted NTFS file system image to read arbitrary memory locations. A successful attack allows sensitive data cached in memory or EFI variable values to be leaked, presenting a high Confidentiality risk.
CVE-2023-4692 2 Gnu, Redhat 2 Grub2, Enterprise Linux 2024-03-08 N/A 7.8 HIGH
An out-of-bounds write flaw was found in grub2's NTFS filesystem driver. This issue may allow an attacker to present a specially crafted NTFS filesystem image, leading to grub's heap metadata corruption. In some circumstances, the attack may also corrupt the UEFI firmware heap metadata. As a result, arbitrary code execution and secure boot protection bypass may be achieved.
CVE-2023-4001 3 Fedoraproject, Gnu, Redhat 3 Fedora, Grub2, Enterprise Linux 2024-02-16 N/A 6.8 MEDIUM
An authentication bypass flaw was found in GRUB due to the way that GRUB uses the UUID of a device to search for the configuration file that contains the password hash for the GRUB password protection feature. An attacker capable of attaching an external drive such as a USB stick containing a file system with a duplicate UUID (the same as in the "/boot/" file system) can bypass the GRUB password protection feature on UEFI systems, which enumerate removable drives before non-removable ones. This issue was introduced in a downstream patch in Red Hat's version of grub2 and does not affect the upstream package.
CVE-2019-14865 2 Gnu, Redhat 3 Grub2, Enterprise Linux, Enterprise Linux Eus 2024-02-06 4.9 MEDIUM 5.5 MEDIUM
A flaw was found in the grub2-set-bootflag utility of grub2. A local attacker could run this utility under resource pressure (for example by setting RLIMIT), causing grub2 configuration files to be truncated and leaving the system unbootable on subsequent reboots.
CVE-2022-28734 2 Gnu, Netapp 2 Grub2, Active Iq Unified Manager 2024-01-16 N/A 7.0 HIGH
Out-of-bounds write when handling split HTTP headers; When handling split HTTP headers, GRUB2 HTTP code accidentally moves its internal data buffer point by one position. This can lead to a out-of-bound write further when parsing the HTTP request, writing a NULL byte past the buffer. It's conceivable that an attacker controlled set of packets can lead to corruption of the GRUB2's internal memory metadata.
CVE-2021-3981 2 Fedoraproject, Gnu 2 Fedora, Grub2 2024-01-16 2.1 LOW 3.3 LOW
A flaw in grub2 was found where its configuration file, known as grub.cfg, is being created with the wrong permission set allowing non privileged users to read its content. This represents a low severity confidentiality issue, as those users can eventually read any encrypted passwords present in grub.cfg. This flaw affects grub2 2.06 and previous versions. This issue has been fixed in grub upstream but no version with the fix is currently released.
CVE-2015-8370 2 Fedoraproject, Gnu 2 Fedora, Grub2 2024-01-16 6.9 MEDIUM N/A
Multiple integer underflows in Grub2 1.98 through 2.02 allow physically proximate attackers to bypass authentication, obtain sensitive information, or cause a denial of service (disk corruption) via backspace characters in the (1) grub_username_get function in grub-core/normal/auth.c or the (2) grub_password_get function in lib/crypto.c, which trigger an "Off-by-two" or "Out of bounds overwrite" memory error.
CVE-2022-28736 1 Gnu 1 Grub2 2023-12-10 N/A 7.8 HIGH
There's a use-after-free vulnerability in grub_cmd_chainloader() function; The chainloader command is used to boot up operating systems that doesn't support multiboot and do not have direct support from GRUB2. When executing chainloader more than once a use-after-free vulnerability is triggered. If an attacker can control the GRUB2's memory allocation pattern sensitive data may be exposed and arbitrary code execution can be achieved.
CVE-2022-28733 1 Gnu 1 Grub2 2023-12-10 N/A 8.1 HIGH
Integer underflow in grub_net_recv_ip4_packets; A malicious crafted IP packet can lead to an integer underflow in grub_net_recv_ip4_packets() function on rsm->total_len value. Under certain circumstances the total_len value may end up wrapping around to a small integer number which will be used in memory allocation. If the attack succeeds in such way, subsequent operations can write past the end of the buffer.
CVE-2022-28735 1 Gnu 1 Grub2 2023-12-10 N/A 7.8 HIGH
The GRUB2's shim_lock verifier allows non-kernel files to be loaded on shim-powered secure boot systems. Allowing such files to be loaded may lead to unverified code and modules to be loaded in GRUB2 breaking the secure boot trust-chain.
CVE-2022-2601 3 Fedoraproject, Gnu, Redhat 8 Fedora, Grub2, Enterprise Linux Eus and 5 more 2023-12-10 N/A 8.6 HIGH
A buffer overflow was found in grub_font_construct_glyph(). A malicious crafted pf2 font can lead to an overflow when calculating the max_glyph_size value, allocating a smaller than needed buffer for the glyph, this further leads to a buffer overflow and a heap based out-of-bounds write. An attacker may use this vulnerability to circumvent the secure boot mechanism.
CVE-2022-3775 2 Gnu, Redhat 2 Grub2, Enterprise Linux 2023-12-10 N/A 7.1 HIGH
When rendering certain unicode sequences, grub2's font code doesn't proper validate if the informed glyph's width and height is constrained within bitmap size. As consequence an attacker can craft an input which will lead to a out-of-bounds write into grub2's heap, leading to memory corruption and availability issues. Although complex, arbitrary code execution could not be discarded.
CVE-2021-3695 4 Fedoraproject, Gnu, Netapp and 1 more 14 Fedora, Grub2, Ontap Select Deploy Administration Utility and 11 more 2023-12-10 4.4 MEDIUM 4.5 MEDIUM
A crafted 16-bit grayscale PNG image may lead to a out-of-bounds write in the heap area. An attacker may take advantage of that to cause heap data corruption or eventually arbitrary code execution and circumvent secure boot protections. This issue has a high complexity to be exploited as an attacker needs to perform some triage over the heap layout to achieve signifcant results, also the values written into the memory are repeated three times in a row making difficult to produce valid payloads. This flaw affects grub2 versions prior grub-2.12.
CVE-2021-3697 2 Gnu, Redhat 12 Grub2, Codeready Linux Builder, Developer Tools and 9 more 2023-12-10 4.4 MEDIUM 7.0 HIGH
A crafted JPEG image may lead the JPEG reader to underflow its data pointer, allowing user-controlled data to be written in heap. To a successful to be performed the attacker needs to perform some triage over the heap layout and craft an image with a malicious format and payload. This vulnerability can lead to data corruption and eventual code execution or secure boot circumvention. This flaw affects grub2 versions prior grub-2.12.
CVE-2021-3696 3 Gnu, Netapp, Redhat 13 Grub2, Ontap Select Deploy Administration Utility, Codeready Linux Builder and 10 more 2023-12-10 6.9 MEDIUM 4.5 MEDIUM
A heap out-of-bounds write may heppen during the handling of Huffman tables in the PNG reader. This may lead to data corruption in the heap space. Confidentiality, Integrity and Availablity impact may be considered Low as it's very complex to an attacker control the encoding and positioning of corrupted Huffman entries to achieve results such as arbitrary code execution and/or secure boot circumvention. This flaw affects grub2 versions prior grub-2.12.
CVE-2021-46705 3 Gnu, Opensuse, Suse 3 Grub2, Factory, Linux Enterprise Server 2023-12-10 2.1 LOW 4.4 MEDIUM
A Insecure Temporary File vulnerability in grub-once of grub2 in SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP4, openSUSE Factory allows local attackers to truncate arbitrary files. This issue affects: SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP4 grub2 versions prior to 2.06-150400.7.1. SUSE openSUSE Factory grub2 versions prior to 2.06-18.1.
CVE-2021-20225 4 Fedoraproject, Gnu, Netapp and 1 more 8 Fedora, Grub2, Ontap Select Deploy Administration Utility and 5 more 2023-12-10 7.2 HIGH 6.7 MEDIUM
A flaw was found in grub2 in versions prior to 2.06. The option parser allows an attacker to write past the end of a heap-allocated buffer by calling certain commands with a large number of specific short forms of options. The highest threat from this vulnerability is to data confidentiality and integrity as well as system availability.
CVE-2021-3418 1 Gnu 1 Grub2 2023-12-10 4.4 MEDIUM 6.4 MEDIUM
If certificates that signed grub are installed into db, grub can be booted directly. It will then boot any kernel without signature validation. The booted kernel will think it was booted in secureboot mode and will implement lockdown, yet it could have been tampered. This flaw is a reintroduction of CVE-2020-15705 and only affects grub2 versions prior to 2.06 and upstream and distributions using the shim_lock mechanism.
CVE-2020-27749 4 Fedoraproject, Gnu, Netapp and 1 more 8 Fedora, Grub2, Ontap Select Deploy Administration Utility and 5 more 2023-12-10 7.2 HIGH 6.7 MEDIUM
A flaw was found in grub2 in versions prior to 2.06. Variable names present are expanded in the supplied command line into their corresponding variable contents, using a 1kB stack buffer for temporary storage, without sufficient bounds checking. If the function is called with a command line that references a variable with a sufficiently large payload, it is possible to overflow the stack buffer, corrupt the stack frame and control execution which could also circumvent Secure Boot protections. The highest threat from this vulnerability is to data confidentiality and integrity as well as system availability.
